PAST SHOWS: KUNST CLOWN, A PERFORMANCE BY PAUL SAKOILSKY
7–9pm, 7 Feb 2009
A rare opportunity to participate in a live, interactive, one night only performance by internationally renowned artist, Paul Sakoilsky. The Kunst Clown series, (originally titled 'I hate f**king clowns'), began in February 2007 while preparing for exhibitions in Budapest and Vienna: "I wasn't originally going to do a performance, and then somehow came across an inflatable clown suit on the internet... it was one of the worst things I had ever seen in my life! I simply had a buy it. The question arose, 'What do you do with a clown?' Ans: Stick a pie in his face...".
The last time this unwholesome character saw the light of day was for 'The Kunst-Clown Quiz' with Carter Presents, at the Art Car Boot Fair (London, 2007). The Kunst Clown is a 'bouffon' of sorts, - a marginalised, ugly-person, an outcast, pushed to the peripheries of society, allowed back only at certain times in order to mock beautiful poeple, to target leaders of mainstream society, and to bring the unsaid into the open with peals of laughter.
The Kunst-Clown is a prelude to 'May Day, May Day - The Dark Times: Editor's Choice #1', opening on 1 May; a curational extension of 'The Dark Times', the artist's historic, ongoing project.
Paul Sakoilsky's challenging body of work is exhibited, published and collected internationally.
